Heavy melting scrap
HMS 1 and HMS 2, cut to furnace size.
What we accept
Heavy melting scrap in both grades, HMS 1 and HMS 2. Material arrives from demolition, plant removal and structural steel taken off site, and is cut to furnace size before it is loaded.
Cut to furnace size
The size a mill can charge is what decides whether a load is usable, so material is cut or sheared to the dimension the buyer specifies rather than shipped as it arrives.
The difference between the two grades
HMS 1 and HMS 2 are kept apart and loaded separately. Mixing them puts the whole load on the lower grade, which is why segregation happens in the yard and not at the port.
What separates HMS 1 from HMS 2
HMS 1 is uncoated steel a quarter inch and thicker, free of galvanised and alloy. HMS 2 takes thinner material and allows galvanised, including pipe and sheet. The two are weighed apart because a furnace charges them differently.
What is kept out
Sealed vessels, closed cylinders and anything that has held fuel or chemicals. Concrete, rubber, insulation and non-ferrous attachments are stripped before the load is weighed.
From the yard to the port
Five stages, handled by us, in the order they happen.
- 01
Grading and preparation
Material is sorted and graded, then cut, sheared or baled to the size the buyer specifies.
- 02
Weighing
Every load is weighed and a weight ticket is issued against it, recording gross, tare and net.
- 03
Inspection
A lot may be inspected at the yard by arrangement. Photographs and weights of a specific lot are provided on request.
- 04
Container loading
Sorted material is loaded to container at the yard, grade by grade rather than mixed.
- 05
Documentation and shipment
Paperwork is handled from the yard through to the port, and the shipment leaves through Shuaiba or Shuwaikh.
